Whistlepig Piggyback Rye 6yr old

In the summer of 2018, the late, legendary Dave Pickerell returned to Whistlepig’s barrelhouses with one mission in mind: to create the best Rye Whiskey for use in the world’s best cocktails. He knew he wanted a mashbill of 100% rye to capture a full-flavored spice. The challenge sat in finding the ideal age statement and bottling strength to realize his dream.

“Perfection” turned out to be a rye, aged not less than six years, carrying a strength of precisely 96.56 proof.

It’s a lovely tale but rumour has it that the proof wasn’t quite as stated.  The story hgoes that the great folk at Whistlepig tweaked the proof to end in “56”, the birth year of the late Pickerell. A wonderful gesture.

Nose – Fresh cinnamon, black peppercorn, a hint of tangerine and grapefruit zest
Palate – Powerfully spicy, with cocoa, cardamom and cured leather flavors
Finish – Wonderfully lengthy, with baking spices, vanilla and hints of citrus
