The Chauncey

In essence, for a cocktail to be crowned a true classic it must either be very good or it must really stand out. Since it meets both of these criteria equally, there can be little doubt of the credentials of The Chauncey. As a matter of fact, it meets both of the criteria superbly.

This delightful cocktail dates back to the 1930s and was recently re-discovered and brought back into the limelight. For the most part, the Whiskey and Gin combination in the Chauncey really shouldn’t work, but it most definitely does.

  • 1 Measure Cask strength Rye
  • 1 Measure Old Tom Gin
  • 1 Measure Cognac
  • 1 Measure Sweet Vermouth
  • 2 Dashes of Orange Bitters

Combine all of the ingredients into a mixing glass together with the ice. Stir and then strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with lemon or an orange twist.

You’ll need a Cask Strength Rye for this one…
